Good morning. It’s 4:30 a.m. but I have been awake since about 3. An owl in the park seems to want the world to know he is around as well. My mind pictures a solitary owl but in a movie I recently watched it is quite possible that it is a response. One owl on a branch echoing back to another.
Historically I waste about an hour hoping to fall back asleep, often in vain. Now I am deciding to either hop on the bike trainer, write a bit or sip a cup of tea while reading.
Work wise I am laying out my 3rd book for publication, creating videos for several talks and outlining a talk that will be delivered remotely. Although creatively rewarding, I miss the travel of last summer. Craving solitude while simultaneously looking forward to time with colleagues is part of the mix I guess.
Learning InDesign has been fairly straightforward. It shares DNA with many of the other platforms I have been navigating such as Blender, Cesium and Unreal Engine. The creative best practices seem to be framework agnostic when rendering pages, images or video scenes. Go figure…
Engaging story building begins with scene creation. Which stories do you want to tell and how do they weave together?
Sprinkle in caring for a parent in the throes of dementia from a distance means you are always engaged. My travel is scheduled to be able visit her at the beginning or end of each trip. Between visits I promised my brother that when he calls, I pick up. Occasionally it is simply light hearted banter but lately it has been mom going off the rails. I shop for food and have it delivered from lists that she apparently forgets writing.
Thanks for listening. Today will be a bit on the smoldering side but I will be heading to NYC soon and welcome the distraction and newly minted routine. There is something to be said about slipping into Central Park for a run in the early hours participating in the crowded solitude of one of the best cities on earth.
I'm always thinking about creating. My future starts when I wake up every morning... Every day I find something creative to do with my life. Miles Davis
